FLOWER POWER ARTIST STATEMENT
2019 has been an interesting year. For the second time in my life, I was diagnosed with cancer. During the 4 week period waiting for surgery, my prognosis was uncertain and the initial tests were grim. Fortunately, the cancer was caught early and my prognosis now is excellent. I’m very grateful.
During my art career, I’ve painted a wide variety of subjects but rarely flowers as they held little interest for me. Prior to and while recovering from surgery, I received many flowers to buoy my spirits. For the first time, I felt compelled to capture them in paint. The more I painted, the more engaged I became with their delicate forms and
vibrant colors. These flowers represent the village that surrounded me with love and care when my future was so uncertain and while I struggled in my recovery.
Because I’ve always enjoyed painting sweets, I decided to include a series of a “Flour Power” paintings mainly because they make me smile.
My house is filled with original artwork and it brings me joy every day. My goal for this show was twofold: 1) throw a really great holiday party and 2) to find good homes for my work to spread the joy to others.
I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoyed created it.
